When Fez appeared in April 2012 IGN Benelux was not live yet. That means we never were able to take the game in our reviews. Too bad, because we have been reminded again last year during the indie game concert that fine game with his great music. Recently we received the news that Fez was given a release date for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Vita. We say let us twice, so here the review of Fez for the PS4.
If you are a gamer that Fez already on PC, Mac or Xbox 360 has played, then the key question, of course: what is different about this Sony variant? Little. The PlayStation 4 version runs 60fps at 1080p and the PlayStation 3 version 60fps at 720p. We deliberately chose Fez play on the PlayStation 4 because it has the most novelties, namely the addition of the touch pad with which the card can be reached, the light bar on the DualShock 4 and finally you can 3D TV Turn to better the game again.
Fez is the year 2014 a further million downloads and that's a nice figure for an indie game. It is unfortunate that creator Fish is so difficult to love, because it is almost the opposite of the sweet world Fez drags you with love. I'm not surprised that a wide variety of gamers supreme best entertained by this game. Fez is such a game that you think at first: "fat pixels and a strange white guy with a red hat, let's see what this then." Then you look at your watch, you're five hours away and you realize that you're so sucked into that magical world that you still have about four hours before you have to back out of bed to go to work.
It is funny enough in Fez is not so much the main character Gomez, but rather the game world itself that is so enchanting. This does brilliantly what many indie games to achieve only try in recent years: give a tribute to the games of the past by working with cartoonish cubes. Moreover, the gameplay is very original. It does distant reminiscent of Paper Mario, because the 3D effects on a 2D world. Plus, there is in both games a pixeltje the protagonist helps to understand the game world.
It's great to puzzle and platforms on the way Fez makes this possible. You find yourself in a 3D world that you see in 2D. It is as if all cube-shaped platforms that you can turn around. You must arrange to jump further through the spin and discover. And - most importantly - to find cubes that form a large cube to open doors to new worlds.
The puzzle element is quite addictive due to the fact that you are immediately rewarded for your brain activity. After all, you can immediately continue and you come closer to open a new world in the game. You can totally lose yourself in that puzzle, because you actually feel smart yourself when you discover how to proceed. It's amazing how you can not just go along by turning the cube worlds, but also to be alert, for example, when lightning and some elements are only visible when the lightning takes office.
In my opinion Fez offers gamers more inspiration than Paper Mario did. It is a game that not many text screens pass with unnecessary information to keep you up. It is true that the characters you encounter are often brief. Short of dust in this case to its promise, because the comments made are often nonsensical funny, which is fine if it is kept short. Personally, I am especially in love with the somersault sweet kittens in the game, or the fat bunnies bouncing randomly around. Each world has its own atmosphere and is - in spite of the large pixel splendor - lots of detail in each world.
I prompt the equally at the beginning: the music is so compelling that it even played live during the indie game concert last year. It sometimes reminiscent of a Disney movie, sometimes to the music of the film Drive; it is each level again lovely to listen to and not get bored. This is partly because there is no sound simple, happy tunes, but precisely what depth sounds very of atmosphere. You can immerse result in the adventure with Gomez.
One drawback to that journey with that white figure is that sometimes you totally have to get back to a place you've been.
