Tower Fall is one of those game under the motto "easy to learn, hard to master 'is. Levels consist of one static screen, where you go each other with a bow and arrow in 8-bit style. Openings at the bottom, top and sides are connected to each other, so you have many more options than you realize at first. Enemies will fall down at the bottom of the screen to appear, then the top of the screen and make your life miserable. In the original game you just rose against other human archers. Tower Fall Ascension has fortunately a lot more, but I'll be back. The true beauty of this deathmatches namely located in the archery itself.
Indeed, there is a catch associated with archery. You start each round with only three arrows, which should take you back when you've shot it. This creates a wonderful risk / reward dilemma with every enemy you want to disable: you take the risk that you miss and become vulnerable to the enemy? Each player can pick each other arrows, so the situation may arise that you run out of arrows.
Fortunately, you can always rely on a Mario-like jump on the head, which works just as effectively. With a well-timed dash you grab a dart fired from the air and you can use it yourself, a valuable technique. In addition, you also have to take into account the environment. Shoot your example an arrow through a fire pit, it will catch fire and cause even more damage.
So an arrow in the air also comes back down and can mean your own death if you are not looking good. But soon unlock all sorts of extras, such as shields to protect you, and wings for mobility. But the best are the special arrows: some shooting through walls, others continue to bounce off several times by walls. All these individual power-ups provide more intense battles and give you lots of tactical advantage and new opportunities.
Intense is the action certainly. A round can be of short duration between two to four players, in which the stress levels rise rapidly. The action is super fast and you'll have to be constantly on guard. Are you clear too busy searching with power-ups, then soon the opponent behind you if you just know how to get through the openings. Local multiplayer is really the driving force of the game and makes for many hilarious moments.
The average round Tower Fall Ascension involves a lot of swearing and laughter. Thanks to the instant replay can be the loser next here again with his nose rubbing on the bench, which is always better than online. Online multiplayer is lacking completely and this is a great loss. Your three friends will not always be around and at times like this game could really benefit from quick online match making.
To compensate for this, Tower Fall Ascension has two new modes: Quest mode and trials. The two are clearly inserted in order to eliminate the lack of a single-player capability, although these are also to play on co-in. In Quest mode you play through individual levels, in which you must survive several waves. Each round take the number of computer-controlled enemies and their complexity. Often will have to recognize your patterns to make everybody off.
In co-op runs this easier, but you will have to take due account of each other because you can touch each other. The levels are very challenging and force you to quickly improve your skills. Should you still sound too easy, then there is still a hardcore variant of each level. Trials are short assignments where it is about to finalize this as soon as possible. Personally, I took more pleasure from the quest and versus modes of Tower Fall Ascension.
Graphic looks the game simplistic - even for 8-bit style where the developer has chosen - but is still full of little quirky things that capture your heart like a cap that falls from the head of the blue shooter where you have a close call with have an arrow. The eight playable characters (of which you must unlock four) all have a different color corresponding to the light bar of the DualShock 4. Enemies eyes well detailed, though you have little time to enjoy here.
The key is that the graphics grow on the player by the addictive gameplay. In bed I still saw flashes of that annoying pink archer and if I did not play the game, do not I managed to put it out of my head. Everything is accompanied by an epic soundtrack that perfectly matches the images, as well as the retro sounds when you pick up powerups, shoot or die. The simple design resonates on every level, but this still works effectively.
THE JUDGEMENT
The number of hours you can get from Tower Fall Ascension is amazing and the game has more depth than the simple graphics suggest. The action is super fast, frantic and most importantly very addictive. The quest mode and trials are a nice addition, but the game really comes into its own when you make the lives of friends acid in the versus mode. It is difficult to understand why there has not been chosen to add online multiplayer. This makes it more of a party game for when you have all your friends together. However, the co-op and versus quest well worth the effort to go through. Tower Fall Ascension was top on the Ouya, and even better on the PS4 and PC.
